Caning
Description
Caning Course with Sonia White
This furniture caning course is for beginners with little or no experience in cane work. All necessary skills to complete the project are taught during the course; however, depending on individual pace, some participants may need to complete their project at home.
The skills learnt on this caning course can be used to tackle small projects at home or used as a foundation for progressing to a continual development course.
You will need to bring a small cane chair or stool on this course. A caned area of 35cm x 35cm or 100 holes is ideal. All tools are provided. Should you wish to bring your own tools, the most useful are; an awl, wooden golf tees, flush cutters and a fabric kitchen cloth. The cost of materials are included in the course fee.
Please send images (before stripping) to us to make sure the piece is suitable for our caning weekend course. All pieces should be photographed prior to stripping and notes made on the weave pattern. The existing cane should be cut as close to the frame as possible and preserved to bring to the workshop and review prior to any cane work taking place. Any remedial work required to the frames to be undertaken before the course start date. We can advise on any extra items required for specific projects.
This weekend caning workshop is taught by Sonia White. Sonia is a qualified Product Designer, she studied upholstery at the London Met and gained an advanced diploma at The British School of Upholstered Furniture. She works with cane, rush and paper cord.
Please e mail us with any questions or with photographs of the piece you want to work on.
We look forward to having you at this special Caning workshop.
