Upholstery Courses

“Begin at the beginning then go on til you come to the end  then stop.” Lewis Carol

We hold regular weekend and five day upholstery courses in our lovely new Cornish studio, in Cornwall. We teach traditional and modern upholstery as well as wood restoration. So you will be taught everything you need to turn your tatty old chairs into something to be treasured and admired.

Our upholstery courses are run by Polly, so you will be in very good hands. Polly comes from a family background in antiques and design, has been working as an upholsterer for over 10 years and teaching for over 7 years. She also teaches regular courses at The Good Life Centre in London.

Our teaching studio is a unique space that will ignite and nurture your creative side whilst helping you switch off from the modern World.  We’re a low tech studio, so don’t expect any wifi but you can expect a very friendly and knowledgeable environment. We have gone out of our way to make sure all your needs are taken care of so teas, coffee, filtered water, lunch and even a scrummy afternoon tea are all provided. We even made organic toiletries for you, so your hard working hands get a bit of extra tlc too.

Being in Falmouth means you can nip to the beach at the end of the day for some well earned chips and maybe a glass of wine or a pint of cider or just a lovely stroll. There are also plenty of boutique shops, fabulous eateries and an array of cosy and quirky drinking holes. So you will not be short of things to do but you may run out of time to see it all.

Upholstery courses are open to all levels, from total novice to the more skilled upholster just wanting a bit of guidance.

Our five day and weekend courses are run several times a month. Five day restoration courses are based on you bringing your own upholstery project to work on and run from Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm. Weekend upholstery courses are held over both Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 5pm. Prices start at £140 for 2 days tuition. Weekend courses can cost more if the frame and materials are provided, such as our ‘make a footstool’ courses..

Not included in the cost are materials; such as hessian, hair and foam. These are costed by weight or per meter, amounts used are noted and paid at the end of the course. There are plenty of fabric samples and books at the studio to help you choose your perfect top fabric or you can bring what you want to use with you.

If you are unsure if your project is suitable then please contact us to discuss.
